What's New Highlights
SAS/ACCESS interfaces offer direct and transparent access to data that is stored in database management systems, relational database management systems, in ERP systems, and several PC file formats. Interfaces are currently available for DB2, Oracle, Sybase, MS SQL Server, CA-OpenIngres, Informix, SAP R/3, Baan, Teradata, OLE DB, ODBC and others.
Release 8.2 extends your ability to reach ERP data sources with a new SAS/ACCESS interface to PeopleSoft. The interface enables you to extract, browse and search PeopleSoft metadata. You can query the metadata and generate views of the data. You can save the data as SAS files and views, as well as save the code that was used to build the query.
In earlier releases of Version 8 SAS software, the SAS/ACCESS interfaces provided faster and more intelligent communication with your relational database management systems. With Release 8.2, further performance enhancements include:
- A new system option that offers improved throughput
- Conversion of many SAS functions into the SQL of the DBMS for faster processing. This enhancement is available for WHERE clauses and PROC SQL when you use the SAS/ACCESS LIBNAME statement.
- Support for bulk loading of DB2 data for OS/390 that enables you to rapidly load rows into a DB2 table.
Other enhancements include support for outer joins between two or more tables (with some restrictions), new data set options for enhanced interrupt and error handling, and new options for controlling deletion and updates to rows in a data source.
