When the QKB refers to locale, it is a unit of a three-level hierarchy consisting of countries, their associated languages, and a top level called Global (GB). The locale contains definitions and data types specific to the country and language pairing. It inherits definitions and data types from the associated language level and from the top GB level. For example, the English, Canada (ENCAN) locale inherits any English and GB definitions that are not overridden or blocked. See Locale Support in the QKB for more information.
There are many definition options available in the QKB depending on the type of information you want to match, parse, or standardize. For example, the English, United States (ENUSA) locale has the following address related parse definitions:
Plus, additional address data is represented by the following parse definitions:
Each of these definitions handle a specific need. In this example, the Address parse definition parses the delivery address, which includes Recipient, Building/Site, Street, Extension, and PO Box. The Address (Full) parse definition parses a complete address which, in addition to the delivery address, includes City, State/Province, Postal Code, and Country information. The City - State/Province - Postal Code parse definition processes input containing only City, State, and ZIP code information. The tokens that are used by these definitions are chosen for the locale in which they are defined.
Definitions with a (Global) tag such as Address (Global) and City - State/Province - Postal Code (Global) use the same set of tokens for all locales. These should be used when you are parsing data from multiple locales with the same data job.
These five separate definitions provide completely different parsing services. You should select the best parse definition for your data.
Definitions can be deprecated for a variety of reasons including:
For additional information, see Deprecation Policy.
Definitions that will be removed from the QKB are first deprecated to notify users that they need to change any jobs that use the definition. In some cases, the deprecation process is also used when definitions are updated. Without this deprecation process, changes to the QKB could cause data quality jobs to fail without warning after upgrading to a new release. Deprecation normally takes place in two phases. Each phase takes place in a new release of the QKB. SAS takes this phased approach to give users time to update their jobs between QKB releases. For additional information, see Deprecation Policy.
