DataFlux Data Management Studio 2.6: User Guide

Address Verification (US/Canada) Node

You can add an Address Verification (US/Canada) node to a data job to verify addresses from the US and Canada. This node uses Canada Post data, which is platform specific. For example, when you execute a data job node that uses Canada Post data in a data job on the Windows server platform, the Canada Post must also reside on a Windows server. This platform specificity means that if you install the Linux version of Canada Post data, it can only be accessed when the job is run from a Linux server platform. You cannot, for example, install a Linux version of Canada Post data to a shared location and try to access it from another platform, such as a Windows, Solaris, or AIX. Therefore, we have a different installer for each platform, as opposed to the USPS data, which needs only one Unix installer because it is not platform specific. See Jobs, Profiles, Data Explorations FAQ for known concerns.

Once you have added the node, you can double-click it to open its properties dialog. The properties dialog includes the following elements:

Name - Specifies a name for the node.

Notes - Enables you to open the Notes dialog. You use the dialog to enter optional details or any other relevant information for the input.

Input Fields - Displays all of the fields that you can use for address verification processing for the United States and Canada. Items displayed in this list are dependent on your data source and any previous steps in your data job. For each field you use for address verification, select the type of address information in the Field Type column.

Address - Specifies whether the address verification is limited to the United States or Canada, or based on a guess. This guessing process tells the code to try to determine if the address is from the US or from Canada. It does this by parsing the address and looking for US State, US ZIP, CA Province, or CA post code. If it sees a Canadian postal code or a Canadian Province in the address, it assumes it's a Canadian address. If it sees a US State or ZIP code, it assumes a US address. Once it has made that determination, it sends the address through the appropriate validation system (US or CA). If no determination can be made, an error is displayed.

Options - Displays the Options dialog. The dialog enables you to process options for result casing and blanks. You can also set locale-specific options for the United States and Canada.

The Output fields section of the dialog includes the following elements:

Available - Displays the fields that you can make available for the next step in your data job. Items displayed in this list are dependent on your data sources and any preceding steps in your data job.

Selected - Displays the fields that will be made available to the next node in your data job.

Additional Outputs - Displays the Additional Outputs dialog. This dialog enables you to specify the fields that you can make available to the next node in your data job.

You can access the following advanced properties by right-clicking the Address Verification (US/Canada) node:
