Reviewing the Status History of a Job

You can review the status history of a job that you select in the Data Jobs or Process Jobs folder in the Folders riser if you have saved status history files for your jobs. Perform the following steps to save status history files for your jobs:

  1. Select a data or process job in the Folders riser.
  2. Click Select the directory in the Run History field in the Run Status History section of the Data Job pane or the Process Job pane.
  3. Specify a directory in the Run Status dialog.
  4. Click OK to save the selection. Status history files for all of your jobs will be saved to this directory.

Note that you can also set this directory in the Run Status section in the Jobs pane in the Data Management Studio Options dialog. You can access this dialog from the Tools menu.

Perform the following steps to review the saved status history of a data or process job:

  1. Run a data or process job at least once to generate one or more status history files. For example, you could generate status history files for the dmsample_process process job. Note that you could use the same procedure for a selected data job.
  2. Select the job in the Folders riser.
  3. Review the status information for the most recent run, which is displayed by default in the Run Status History section of the Data Job pane or the Process Job pane. The following display shows this information for the dmsample_process job:

  4. Click View log in the toolbar to examine the log for that run, as shown in the following display:

Note that the job status file location is displayed above the status line of the log.

  5. Click View job in the toolbar to open the job for the selected run. The job status file location is also displayed for this view.
  6. Click the drop-down menu in the Run History field to select a run from the list of runs that have a saved status file. The list for the dmsample_process job is shown in the following display:

  7. Click Clear Run Results in the toolbar to select a deletion option for the status history files. You can delete the status history for a selected run, delete the status history for a selected run and all older runs, or delete the status history for all runs.

Note that you can even see the status for a selected data or process job when you have not selected a directory for saved status history files. Simply right-click the job in the Folders riser and click Run in the pop-up menu. The selected job will run and its status will be displayed in the Run Status History section of the Data Job pane or Process Job pane. Note that this status is not saved. You will be able to review the log and the job, but you will not find any saved status history files to review or delete.
