Overview of Business Data Network

Business Data Glossaries and Business Data Network

A business data glossary is an authoritative vocabulary that promotes a common understanding between stakeholders in an organization. Business Data Network is a separately-licensed DataFlux Web Studio module that enables you to manage a business data glossary. It supports a collaborative approach to managing the following information:

By linking terms to business rules and data monitoring processes, Business Data Network provides an important starting point for data governance efforts. Data stewards, IT staff and enterprise architects can use the terms to promote a common vocabulary across projects and business units. Permissions can be set to allow only specific users to access and/or control the data in Business Data Network.

Two Interfaces for Business Data Network

Business Data Network has both a desktop interface (in DataFlux Data Management Studio) and a web browser interface (in DataFlux Web Studio). In general, the DataFlux Data Management Studio interface is used to set up a glossary. The following tasks can be performed in DataFlux Data Management Studio only:

The DataFlux Web Studio interface is typically used to support a collaborative effort to add and update terms in a glossary. The DataFlux Web Studio interface can also be used to link Reference Data Manager domain items to a term with the tools on the Associated Items tab. For more information about the web browser interface to Business Data Network, see the DataFlux Web Studio User's Guide.
