SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office

New Features in the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office

Here are some of the new features in the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office:
  • integration with Microsoft Outlook
  • a more robust automation interface
  • a new OLAP Viewer for working with OLAP cubes in Microsoft Excel
  • the ability to replicate SAS content
  • the ability to edit data sets that are saved on a SAS server. You can open these data sets in Microsoft Excel. While you have the data set in edit mode, the data set is locked and cannot be opened by other users at your site. When you commit your changes to the SAS server, you overwrite the existing data set, so your changes can be accessed by others at your site.
  • several new and enhanced tasks that you can use to analyze your data.
For more information about the new features and enhancements, see the “What's New in the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office” topic at http://support.sas.com/documentation/onlinedoc/addin.

Differences between the SAS Add-In 4.2 and 4.3 for Microsoft Office

Before upgrading to the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office, review the following differences between the 4.2 release and the 4.3 release:
  • If you have a Microsoft Office document that contains SAS content that was generated using the 2.1 or the 4.2 release of the SAS add-in, then you can open this document by using the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office.
If you need to migrate multiple files or you need to remap references to metadata objects (such as servers, libraries, information maps, and stored processes), then you can use the Migration Wizard.
  • When you refresh an item in the document, the SAS content from the 2.1 release is automatically converted to the 4.3 format. After the content is refreshed using the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office, you cannot refresh the content by using the 2.1 release of the SAS add-in.
  • Content that was generated in the 2.1 release must be refreshed before you can use the new restore content functionality in the 4.3 release.
  • In the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office, you can open reports that were generated by SAS Web Report Studio. You must be running SAS Web Report Studio 4.3 to open prompted reports in the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office. For more information, see http://support.sas.com/kb/40/386.html.

Upgrading to the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office

To upgrade to the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office, run the SAS Deployment Wizard. This wizard automatically detects if there are SAS software products in your order that are more recent than the products you have deployed on your machine. For example, if your order includes a new release of SAS Enterprise Guide, SAS Web Report Studio, and the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office, then all of these products are upgraded when you run the SAS Deployment Wizard. You do not need to run the SAS Deployment Wizard separately for each product upgrade. Also, if you have not applied the third maintenance release for SAS 9.2, then these updates are installed as well. If your SAS order contains any new products that were not in your current deployment, you must rerun the SAS Deployment Wizard to add the new products to your deployment.
For instructions on how to upgrade to the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office, see Upgrading SAS Products.
Note: A limited license for the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office is included with SAS Enterprise Miner 6.2. If you are upgrading to SAS Enterprise Miner 6.2, then you might be adding the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office to your deployment. In this case, you are not upgrading to the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office. Instead, you are adding the SAS add-in to your current deployment. For more information about how to add the SAS add-in to your deployment, see SAS Enterprise Miner 6.2.

Uninstalling the SAS Add-In 4.2 for Microsoft Office

The SAS Deployment Wizard installs the SAS Add-In 4.3 for Microsoft Office, and the 4.3 release becomes the active version of the SAS add-in on your machine. However, the SAS Deployment Wizard does not remove the SAS Add-In 4.2 for Microsoft Office, if you previously installed that version of the SAS add-in. You can use the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office Utility to specify which version of the SAS add-in you want to use and the Microsoft Office applications where the SAS add-in should be enabled. For more information about this utility, see the Help for the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office.
To remove the SAS Add-In 4.2 for Microsoft Office, use the Uninstall facility in Windows operating environments.
To remove the metadata for a release of the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office, unconfigure the Add-In for Office Server Data component on the metadata tier. You will remove this software component and any capabilities for that release of the SAS add-in. These capabilities are also removed from any roles that use these capabilities. Roles are not removed because the roles might contain capabilities from the new release of the SAS add-in. Adding new capabilities to existing roles occurs when you install the server data for the new release of the SAS add-in.
