For a set of observations
with one or more quantitative variables and a classification variable,
the Discriminant Analysis task develops a discriminant criterion to
classify each observation into a group. The derived discriminant criterion
from this data set can be applied to a second data set during the
same run.
This task can also derive
canonical variables. These variables are linear combinations of the
quantitative variables that summarize between class variance. This
summarization is similar to how principal components summarize total
variation.
