Start a Server

To start a server:
  1. Click the In-Memory Data button and then click new.
  2. Specify the SAS LASR Analytic Server parameters:
    Field
    Description
    Configuration directory
This field specifies the path to the server description files.
    Server description file
Use the menu to select a server instance to start again or to specify the name of the server description file. Each server description file represents a server instance.
The server description file is created in the directory identified in the Configuration directory field.
Override if server description file exists
Select this check box to force starting a server instance. For more information about this option, see Server Description Files.
    Security root directory
This field specifies the root of the security path on the machines in the grid that the server uses for signature files.
    Group security directory
For deployments that implement group-level security by creating directories that are relative to the Security root directory value, specify the relative path to the group security directory.
    Number of machines to use
Use the default value ALL unless directed to change the value by SAS technical support.
  3. Click Start.
The following items provide additional information about starting a server instance:
  • If a server instance is running and you attempt to start a second server instance using the same server description file, the second server instance is not started. An error message is provided to let you know that a server instance might be running. If you select the Override if server description file exists check box and retry, an attempt is made to stop the server instance that is described in the file, and then the second server instance is started.
  • If a server instance stops because it reached its maximum run time, then the server description file for the server is not removed. In this case, attempting to start the server again, but not selecting the Override if server description file exists check box, results in an error.
