The default number of imputations is changed from 5 to 25. The previous default value of 5 was based on relative efficiency considerations. However, recent studies, which consider aspects such as confidence intervals and p-values, recommend a larger number of imputations (Allison 2012; Van Buuren 2012, pp. 49–50).
