Facilitate End-User Access

This topic provides guidance for enabling end users to access metadata-bound data.

Issue: User can’t access the metadata server.

Resolution:

Complete the following steps:

Explain to the user how to connect to the target metadata server from his or her SAS session. See Metadata Server Connection Options.
In SAS Management Console, make sure the user is correctly registered in the metadata repository. See the topic "Introduction to User Administration" in the SAS Management Console: Guide to Users and Permissions.

Issue: User is not authorized to access the data.

Resolution:

Complete the following steps:

Verify that the user is using the second maintenance release of SAS (or a later release). Users cannot access metadata-bound data from earlier releases of SAS.
In SAS Management Console, make sure the user is correctly registered in the metadata repository. See the topic "Introduction to User Administration" in the SAS Management Console: Guide to Users and Permissions.
In SAS Management Console, verify that the user has the necessary permissions on the secured table object that corresponds to the target metadata-bound table. If the user is attempting to access data from a client that uses metadata in order to locate data, verify that the user has sufficient permissions on the traditional table object. See Verifying Read Access to Metadata-Bound Data.
Make sure that the host account under which the data is retrieved has host-layer access to the data. See Identity in Authorization Evaluations.
In the metadata server log, make sure that the user is connecting to the metadata server under the expected metadata identity. See “Default Locations for Server Logs” in Chapter 24 of SAS Intelligence Platform: System Administration Guide.
