You can use a grouping variable to add a third dimension to your scatter plots. Scatter plot points at different levels of the grouping variable are shown with different symbols (and colors, on appropriate display devices).
To specify a grouping variable, select 'Grouping variable' and 'Select grouping variable' from the Locals menu. By default, you are presented with a list of data set variables having between 2 and 6 levels, or unique values. If you want to be able to choose from variables having as many as 12 levels, select 'Grouping variable' and 'Set level cutoff' from the Locals menu. The Level Cutoff window enables you to specify the number of levels that should distinguish between a continuous variable and a potential grouping variable.
When a grouping variable is used, neither regression lines nor correlation coefficients can be displayed on the plots.
