Release Notes

The following release notes pertain to SAS/IML Studio 12.1 and SAS/IML Studio 12.3:

  • This release of SAS/IML Studio requires SAS 9.3 (TS1M2) or later.

  • For a complete list of new features in SAS/IML Studio 12.1, read Changes in Version 12.1 in the SAS/IML Studio online Help: Help → Help Topics. The following list highlights some important changes from previous versions:

    • SAS/IML Studio is now available in both a 64-bit edition and a 32-bit edition. Both editions of SAS/IML Studio can connect to either a 64-bit edition or a 32-bit edition of the SAS Workspace Server. Also, both editions can connect to either a 64-bit edition or a 32-bit edition of R.

    • SAS/IML Studio now supports the ODS HTML destination. Starting with SAS/IML Studio 12.1, the ODS HTML destination is the default, which means that you can now view ODS statistical graphics. You can reconfigure SAS/IML Studio to use the ODS LISTING destination by following the instructions in the online Help topics The IML Studio Environment →  Configuration →  Configuring IML Studio Options →  Output.

    • SAS/IML Studio has an improved ability to run multiple IMLPlus programs in parallel on computers with multiple processors or with multicore processors.

    • You can use the new CopyCurrentPlotToOutputDocument method in the R class to copy plots that are created in R into the ODS HTML or LISTING destination.

    • The SAS/IML Studio data table and graphs now support user-defined formats.

  • SAS/IML Studio includes documentation for Base SAS 9.3 (TS1M2) and for SAS/IML 12.1 and SAS/STAT 12.1. See for current versions of SAS documentation.

  • If you need to open a data set that contains Chinese, Japanese, or Korean characters, it is important that you configure the Regional and Language Options in the Windows Control Panel for the appropriate country. It is not necessary to change the Windows setting called Language for non-Unicode programs, which is also referred to as the system locale.

  • The SAS/IML Studio user interface is available in the following languages: English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese. When you are running SAS/IML Studio on a Windows system configured for a language other than English, you can still use English fonts. For details, search for the term IMLStudio_ForceEnglishFonts in the online Help.

  • SAS/IML Studio uses the Microsoft Access Database Engine to import Microsoft Excel worksheets. Because SAS/IML Studio is a 32-bit application, it requires the 32-bit edition of the Access Database Engine. If you are using a 64-bit edition of the Windows operating system and the 64-bit edition of the Access Database Engine is installed, you cannot use the Open File dialog box or the IMLPlus method DataObject.CreateFromExcelFile to read Microsoft Excel worksheets into SAS/IML Studio. However, you can import a Microsoft Excel worksheet by using the IMPORT procedure, which is part of SAS/ACCESS® Interface to PC Files.

SAS/IML Studio 12.3 is a maintenance release. No new features have been added. The information in this book applies to SAS/IML Studio 12.1 and SAS/IML Studio 12.3.
