Calculate Totals and Subtotals

To calculate totals and subtotals for the data in the table viewer:
  1. Select Datathen selectTotals from the main menu bar.
  2. Select the totals and subtotals that you want to create:
    • For relational data, select from the following fields:
      Fields for the Totals Dialog Box (Relational Version)
      Field
      Function
      Availability
      Row subtotals
      Not applicable
      Not available for relational data.
      Row totals
      Column subtotals
      Column totals
      Calculates totals for each column, appearing in the bottom row.
      Enabled when your query contains one or more measure columns.
    • For OLAP data, select from the following fields:
      Fields for the Totals Dialog Box (OLAP Version)
      Field
      Function
      Availability
      Row subtotals
      Calculates subtotals for each row, appearing in the rightmost column for each member of the outside hierarchy.
      Enabled when two or more hierarchies are assigned as columns.
      Column subtotals
      Calculates subtotals for each column, appearing in the bottom row for each member of the outside hierarchy.
      Enabled when two or more hierarchies are assigned as rows.
      Row totals
      Calculates totals for each row, appearing in the rightmost column.
      Enabled when one or more hierarchies are assigned as columns.
      Column totals
      Calculates totals for each column, appearing in the bottom row.
      Enabled when one or more hierarchies are assigned as rows.
  3. (OLAP data only) Select where the totals are displayed:
    On top (left)
    places row totals at the top, and column totals on the left.
    On bottom (right)
    places row totals at the bottom, and column totals on the right.
  4. (OLAP data only) Select the values that are used to calculate the totals:
    Visual totals
    specifies that the values which are currently displayed in the table viewer are used for the totals.
    Parent totals
    specifies that the totals use all of the values from the query to calculate the totals. Filters and drill actions do not affect the totals.
  5. (OLAP data only) (Optional) If you selected Parent totals, select whether to include itemized totals. Check Itemize values across hierarchies to display itemized totals for each hierarchy member.
  6. Click OK to apply your changes and return to the main Visual Data Explorer page.
