Setting Up Profiles

What Is a Profile?

A profile defines the connection between SAS Enterprise Guide and a SAS Metadata Server. The SAS Metadata Server contains metadata definitions for objects such as workspace servers, libraries, and users that are used by SAS Enterprise Guide and other applications. After you use a profile to connect to a source of metadata definitions, you can use SAS Enterprise Guide Explorer to define libraries. However, the primary application for creating metadata definitions is SAS Management Console, which you can also use to define libraries, as well as servers, users, groups, and authorization settings.

If you use SAS Enterprise Guide without a profile, you can access only a SAS server that is installed on your local machine. You cannot define libraries or share SAS resources with other SAS applications.
