About the Tasks That You Will Perform

For this example, you are researching the trend of the Federal Reserve rate from January 1962 to May 2010. The data is publicly available from http://www.federalreserve.gov, which is the website for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. (To help you complete this example, this data is included in the sample data that is installed with the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office.)
After completing this example, you will know how to perform these tasks:
  • run a SAS analysis (specifically, the Summary Statistics, Linear Regression, and Line Plot tasks) in Microsoft Excel
  • specify Excel data as the input data source for a SAS task
  • select the location of the output from a SAS task
  • change the properties of the generated output
  • quickly refresh your results by including Visual Basic code in your Excel worksheet
