PC Files Server Administration

Overview

PC Files Server is an application that receives to client requests. It runs on either Microsoft 32-bit Windows, or Microsoft 64-bit Windows on Windows 64-bit subsystem support with WOW64, an x86 emulator.

To access PC data, SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC Files must be installed on the client. The server must be installed and running on the Windows PC where the PC data resides.

Server Modes

Starting with SAS/ACCESS 9.2, the server can run in two modes: Server Mode as a desktop application (available before 9.2), and Service Mode as a Windows service. Only one instance of the server can be running on a single PC at any given time.


PC Files Server Installation

By default, there is an installation option that enables PC Files Server to run automatically in service mode. When this option is set during installation, PC Files Server automatically starts as a service. If the option is cleared during installation, PC Files Server does not start automatically, and the server has to be started manually.
