README SAS® Providers for OLE DB 9.1 Prerequisites Before installing the software, you must verify that the computer on which you are installing meets the minimum system requirements for this software. The section below includes the required components for this software. Compare the minimum requirements with your computer's properties and update your computer as necessary. Software Operating System * Windows NT 4.0 * Windows NT Server 4.0 * Windows 2000 Professional * all Windows 2000 Server Editions * Windows XP Professional Other Software * Microsoft Visual C++ Run-Time Components 6.0, Service Pack 4 or later * Microsoft Data Access Components 2.7 or higher. Microsoft Data Access Components is available from the Microsoft Web site. Note: An earlier version of the MDAC might work, but is not supported by SAS. * SAS Integration Technologies Client for Windows 9.1 is required for the IOM Data Provider and the OLAP Data Provider. * The SAS/SHARE Data Provider requires a valid TCP/IP configuration. * The IOM Data Provider requires a valid TCP/IP configuration unless you are accessing a local instance of the SAS Integrated Object Model (IOM) server. Installation Instructions Installing the SAS Providers for OLE DB The SAS Providers for OLE DB allow you to access SAS data through OLE DB and ADO, which are programming interfaces developed by Microsoft for accessing both relational and nonrelational data. When you click on the download button you will be prompted to either open the file sasoledb.exe or save it to your computer. Select save. Then save the file to a directory of your choice. Double click on the file, sasoledb.exe. The install program will guide you through the installation process. By selecting different components you will be able to access SAS data from a variety of sources. Files related to the SAS Providers for OLE DB will be installed in the "SAS OLE DB Data Providers" directory within the SAS shared files directory. Once the install is complete, you may delete sasoledb.exe. Installable Components Local, single-user, read-only raw data access This component provides read-only access directly to SAS data files that are on disk. No additional SAS software is required. SQL processing is not supported. Local, single-user, read/update SAS access This component provides read and update access to local SAS data if the SAS Base product is installed and licensed. SAS/SHARE Server access This component provides read and update access to a SAS/SHARE Server. The SAS/SHARE Server must be installed on a machine accessible by the client. SAS Integration Technologies IOM Server access This component provides read and update access to SAS data through a SAS Integration Technologies IOM server. SAS Integration Technologies Client for Windows 9.1 must be installed locally and the SAS IOM Server must be installed on a machine accessible by the client. SAS OLAP Server access This component provides read-only access to SAS data through a SAS OLAP Server. SAS Integration Technologies Client for Windows 9.1 must be installed locally and the SAS OLAP Server must be installed on a machine accessible by the client. Using the SAS Providers for OLE DB Once the install is complete the SAS Providers for OLE DB will be registered on your machine. They are now available to be used for gaining access to SAS data. For more information on how to use the SAS Providers for OLE DB see the oledbpr.chm help file in the installation location. Uninstalling the SAS Providers for OLE DB The SAS Providers for OLE DB can be uninstalled from the Windows Add/Remove Programs control panel. Note: Other SAS products may install some or all of the SAS Providers for OLE DB. Files related to SAS Providers for OLE DB will not be removed from your system until all applications that reference the Providers are also removed.
