README SAS/SHARE(r) Data Provider Version 9 for Windows(r) The SAS/SHARE Data Provider allows you to access, update, and manipulate SAS data using OLE DB- and ADO-compliant applications. In addition, the SAS/SHARE Data Provider allows read and write access to DBMS data such as IBM DB2 and ORACLE by installing and configuring SAS/ACCESS and SAS/SHARE software to run jointly on the server platform. Furthermore, SAS views can be defined to join DBMS tables from different vendors, creating a virtual data warehouse for your OLE DB and ADO applications. The SAS/SHARE Data Provider uses the TCP/IP protocol to access the SAS data under the control of the SAS/SHARE server. TCP/IP support allows users to access both local and remote SAS servers on a variety of host platforms. Installation of the SAS System is not required on the SAS/SHARE Data Provider client machine. The server machine requires a proper license and installation of Base SAS and SAS/SHARE Software. SAS/SHARE Data Provider System Requirements Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) Version 2.7 or higher. Note: An earlier version of the MDAC might work but is not supported by SAS. Installing the SAS/SHARE Data Provider The SAS/SHARE Data Provider package (sasoledb.exe) is a self-installing executable for Windows platforms. Use your browser to select the package or execute the package directly from the CD at cd_drive:\share\sasoledb.exe and follow the instructions to install the driver. For more information on how to use the SAS/SHARE Data Provider, see the oledbpr.chm help files in the installation location (by default, C:\Program Files\SAS\Shared Files\SAS OLE DB Data Providers).
