Training Center Highlight
Hartford, CT
When students attend a course at SAS Education's Hartford, Conn., training center, they find that it's actually located in Glastonbury. Glastonbury is a small town about ten minutes outside of Hartford with a four-way stop at its heart and sidewalks leading to family-owned restaurants and businesses. The area is known for its historic New England charm, and it's this charm and small-town friendliness that Education Services Representative Kristin Jackson strives to reflect at the training center.
"I want students to receive the best training experience while they're here, so they will beg to come back," Jackson confides. "It's all about customer service. I make sure their experience exceeds their expectations."
When asked what good customer service looks like, Jackson tells stories of warming up students' lunches in the employee microwave; printing out directions to and information on local restaurants and historical sites, such as the Mark Twain house; arranging for private offices so students can make conference calls; and even delivering students' packages to the post office. When Jackson isn't serving as concierge and hostess, she's stocking the classrooms, orienting students and instructors for the day's class and registering new students over the phone.
This attention to detail is representative of the staff at the Hartford training center and has led to glowing comments on student evaluations. "Top notch training facility," raved one student. "I love coming here for class." "The staff here is incredible and very attentive to student needs," reports another student. "If every public university was run as well as this facility the college experience would improve dramatically!"
The Hartford training center serves up to 20 students at a time and around 200 students a year. Jackson says that half of these students attend customized, on-site training, while many others come for introductory statistics and SAS programming courses.
For students traveling from out-of-state, the training center's building shares the parking lot with a hotel, so it's just a short walk to class each morning. A number of unique dining options exist within walking distance, along with a Barnes & Noble and a small upscale mall. A variety of entertainment and dining options also exist in
Hartford. Parking is free and convenient.
