It didn't hit me until a couple of days ago, but the first decade of the 21st century is now officially in the books. Though one of the most eventful decades in history, I'm still not sure what we're supposed to call it. The "nineties" made sense for the years between 1990 and 1999, but what do you call the years between 2000 and 2009?
Since "the decade between Y2K and H1N1" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, I'm taking suggestions. One possibility is the "naughts," a popular way folks from the 1900s referred to that century's first decade. Another candidate: the "zeros." Finally, we have the "ohs" or maybe even the "oh-ohs" (as in double zeros). Regardless of where we settle, it's pretty clear it'll be somewhat dismal sounding, and maybe that's appropriate given the challenges we encountered during this time.
So, to help offset the negativity, I'm declaring nothing but sunshine in 2010. That means instead of the traditional (and boring) "two thousand and ten," I propose we refer to the new year with the bouncy, hip (and at least to ophthalmologists), better-than-perfect moniker: "twenty ten."
To start the year off right, may I suggest making a renewed pledge to yourself and your career? That's where we can help.
In this issue of the SAS Training Report, you'll find out how to turn those "oh-ohs" into "a-has!" with introductory courses from SAS. You'll also learn about SAS Education's newest courses and how to sharpen your SAS skills with certification bundles. Finally, you'll meet SAS Education's own Heath Tuttle, who is doling out his own brand of sunshine through curriculum advice (and music!).
Here's to rainbows, lollipops and a stimulating new year of learning!
