Title: Advanced Log-Linear Models Using SAS
Author: Daniel Zelterman
Description:
Daniel Zelterman applies his extensive SAS knowledge and biostatistics experience to illustrate how to use the GENMOD procedure to analyze log-linear models for categorical data. His wide variety of examples illustrate the statistical applications that PROC GENMOD can perform. He thoroughly describes the models, provides real data examples, supplies the necessary code and explains the output from GENMOD. The topics covered include the Pearson goodness-of-fit statistic; tables of categorical data; a review of log-linear model methods for rectangular tables of categorical data; extrapolation methods to estimate population size; new models and distributions for statistical analysis of data; and issues in power analysis and estimating sample size in experiments.

Title: Models for Discrete Data
Author: Daniel Zelterman
Description:
Discrete or count data arises in experiments where the outcomes are countable and classified into unique, non-overlapping categories. This book describes the statistical models for evaluating such data. It provides an introduction for graduate students and a concise review for practitioners. The book provides the first in-depth coverage of a number of statistical topics, including the negative multinomial distribution, the many forms of hypergeometric distribution and coordinate-free models. A detailed treatment of the issues of sample size and power is given in terms of exact inference and asymptotic, non-central chi-squared approximations.

Interview with Author Derek Morgan
Derek P. Morgan is a database administrator in the Division of Statistical Genomics at Washington University School of Medicine. He designs, develops and supports data entry/management systems using SAS/AF and SAS/FSP for medical research. Derek also directs the compilation and documentation of data for several collaborative studies. He is very skilled at using the DATA step and macro language to process raw data and generate reports; in 1991, Derek created a macro library that allowed users to format SAS output in PostScript via the DATA step.
In addition to presenting many in-house seminars on topics in applications development, research data management and advanced Base SAS, Derek has taught Base SAS to new users for many years. A SAS user for over 20 years and former president of the Midwest SAS Users Group, Derek has received several awards at both SUGI and regional users group conferences. In his spare time, he plays bass guitar and has played bass with two members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Read More

What Is a SAS Index Good for Anyhow?
If there were a SAS performance tool that could drastically reduce your program's I/Os, lower its CPU time and decrease its run time, would you use it? Of course, you would! Such a performance tool exists; it is called a SAS index. SAS indexes can dramatically improve the performance of programs that access small subsets of observations from large SAS data sets. A tip from Michael Raithel. Read More
