Books are good for you

Dear Reader,

Louisa May Alcott wrote "She is too fond of books, and it has turned her brain." If you're picturing a literary mash-up of a book-eating zombie, you're not alone. However much I enjoy Ms. Alcott's wit, I don't think any of you (our readers) are in danger.

With the New Year just beginning, maybe you're planning on adding more books to your library. If you need help selecting the most suitable SAS reading, we're here. You can find new books and documentation in each issue of the SAS Book Report. And please email us with your questions.

Perhaps there are books you'd like to recommend to other SAS users. We welcome those, too. Be sure to read Julie Platt's new post in this issue, "Which SAS books would be on your ideal bookshelf?"

We're also always looking for new authors and book topic ideas. In this month’s "Updates for Aspiring Authors" column, SAS Press author recruiter Shelley Sessoms covers the book proposal process.

Whether you're craving books, documentation, or SAS tips, this issue serves them up. And as Oprah Winfrey said, "Cheers to a new year and another chance for us to get it right." Thank you for reading.

See you in February,

Shelly Goodin

Updates for Aspiring Authors

Writing Your Book Proposal

By Shelley Sessoms

Last month, I encouraged you to send me your book ideas. I hope you have started thinking about what you'd like to write. This month, I want to outline the information that you need to get started on your book proposal. Proposals consist of five things:

  • a completed Author Questionnaire
  • a detailed table of contents or outline
  • a sample chapter
  • a resume or CV (curriculum vitae)
  • a signed Information Release Agreement

Our Author with SAS page has details on each item above. Happy writing!
