Three new books close a busy year

Dear Reader,

This summer, I read my first book on my Kobo eBook reader. It was W. Somerset Maugham's novel, Of Human Bondage. Although it was written almost a hundred years ago, I found it to be relevant and surprisingly moving. The irony of reading a classic novel on an eBook reading device didn't cross my mind—until now. While I generally prefer holding a solid book in my hands, I've accepted that I'm actually an ambidextrous reader.

To me, content is what matters most. Whether reading an interesting discussion on my iPhone, a borrowed library book, or a PDF—I just want it to be good. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The virtue of books is to be readable."

This month's issue of "SAS Publishing News" features lots of readable books. From three very new SAS Press titles to our featured 20% off title. Besides strictly talking books, additional content highlights include: how the SAS Documentation Development team is exploring where users go for help, the sharing of a favorite book customer encounter, and an inspiring look at SAS Press author Michael Raithel’s recent accomplishments.

Coming back somewhat full circle (from a classic 1915 novel to today), Stephen King says it well, "Your stuff starts out being just for you … but then it goes out. Once you know what the story is and get it right—as right as you can, anyway—it belongs to anyone who wants to read it. Or criticize it." However you’re reading our books, documentation, or even this issue of SPN, we want your time to be well spent. As always, we welcome your feedback.

Happy New Year to each of you and thank you for your continuing support of our work! May you have a lovely start in 2012.

See you next month,

Shelly Goodin
