So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, erhm... Daffodils

Dear Readers –

"For oft, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils."

In this famous poem by William Wordsworth, many people believe he is merely recounting a beautiful nature scene that he happened to stumble upon by accident.  As an English major from UNC, I have often wondered if he isn’t really alluding to those thousands of good memories that we collect through our lives. Over the last 12 years, which include transitioning the listserv NEWDOCNEWS to an e-newsletter and becoming the editor of the sleek SAS Publishing News we love today, I have had many of these “daffodil” memories.  Sometimes it has been helping users find some obscure doc or sample on the Web site; other times, it has been linking users up with the people here at SAS that can best help them.  But some of my favorite memories  have been the random e-mails from users letting me know they find SPN a valuable resource.  Right before Christmas, a user e-mailed me just to wish me Merry Christmas and to let me know that he thought SAS Publishing was a good newsletter. (Thanks, Martin O.!)

So it’s with a tinge of sadness that I turn SAS Publishing News over to Shelly Goodin while I change jobs from SAS Publishing to the SAS Analytics group.  Shelly brings a fresh perspective, years of publishing experience, and a great sense of humor.  SPN will continue to provide you with the hottest titles in SAS Press and SAS Doc, the dates of the latest must-attend conferences, special promos, discounts, and more!  In fact (hint, hint!), keep your eyes open for a fantastic special from SAS Publishing for the month of July!

As always, thanks for subscribing to SAS Publishing News and thanks so much for all your support and feedback over the last 12 years.  It’s been my pleasure to write for you all.

JMP Essentials Wins International Award

Contributed by Aimee Rodriguez, SAS Press

Congratulations to Curt Hinrichs and Chuck Boiler! Their book,  JMP Essentials: An Illustrated Step-by-Step Guide for New Users , has won an Award of Distinguished Technical Communication in this year's International Summit Awards presented by the Society for Technical Communication. The award goes to a project that "applies the principles of technical communication in an outstanding way, particularly in the way that it anticipates and fulfills the needs of its audience."

"We're thrilled to be honored with the award," said Chuck Boiler. "The message of the book and of JMP is that anyone can make data-driven decisions with graphics. We hope the award will help this message reach more people, even those who never even thought of trying to do data analysis."

Curt Hinrichs added, "We tried to design the book with the less technical user in mind, which led us to do some things a little differently. It's very gratifying to see this recognized by STC."

SAS Press Acquisitions Editor Stephenie Joyner shared in the excitement. "We already think the book is exceptional, but it's especially gratifying for our colleagues to recognize its achievements as well."
