Book excerpts from our bestselling software

It's approaching midnight. As I sit in my home office gazing at the moon while typing, the new movie "Melancholia" weighs heavily on me. My husband and I just viewed it on demand while it simultaneously went into limited release in theatres. I won't give any plot points away. Let's just say that it's a mood piece, albeit strangely beautiful.

Have you ever been moved by a book, song, movie, speech, joke, or something else? I'm particularly fascinated with the pairing of music and literature and/or film. When the pairing clicks, it's magical. Do you, too, ever find yourself thinking "this would be the perfect soundtrack for this book"? Or when using a SAS book or documentation, does a certain song naturally accompany your tasks? Are programmers, statisticians, instructors, and marketers drawn to different types of music while working? If you have an experience like this to share, I'd love to know which songs, books, and tasks you're mentally pairing.

While we don't have any song recommendations to accompany your SAS work this month, we do have some really good content, starting with the availability of book excerpts from some of our bestselling software. Be sure to take a look at these special promotions. We've also featured popular tips from SAS authors, Shelley Sessoms' idea for turning your paper into a book, our featured 20% off title, upcoming events and an interview with a SAS Publishing technical specialist on the forefront of emerging e-book technology.

As the days get dimmer in December (in the Northern Hemisphere) and we approach the shortest day of the year, I hope you'll find some of your own magical moments. As always, thank you for reading SPN.

See you in January,

Shelly Goodin
