For her entire career at SAS, Judy Whatley has worked in the Publications Division. She has worked in Publications as a technical writer, as a technical editor,
and most recently, with SAS Press as an acquisitions editor.
We invited Judy to share a few thoughts about being a SAS Press acquisitions editor.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
Without a doubt, it is the opportunity to develop working relationships with our intelligent, creative, and hard-working authors. Over time, I have been
fortunate to work with several authors through a number of book projects each. Also, I enjoy the journey with my authors through the entire process of
developing an idea for a book to seeing the finished product.
Are there particular topic areas that you're focusing your recruiting efforts on?
I am very focused on seeking out and developing books in the pharmaceutical and health sciences areas. It has been exciting to get to know the SAS
users in this fascinating industry.
Do you have any advice you'd like to offer prospective SAS Press authors?
Your acquisitions editor is a wonderful resource. We can offer information, encouragement, contacts, strategies and more throughout the project. So, if
you have an idea for a book, don't be afraid to proceed with it. We will be with you all the way!
Look for Judy at PharmaSUG 2007 in Denver and at SCSUG in Austin.
