SAS Warehouse Development Specialist Concepts Exam
This exam will retire on December 31, 2008. A new exam will be offered in this track and will focus on SAS Data Integration Technology. Anticipated exam release date early 2009.
Audience
Successful candidates for the SAS Certified Warehouse Development
Specialist credential should have experience in software development and
design in a data warehousing environment. They have a working knowledge in
data management programming (programming skills), data quality, Extract,
Transform, Load (ETL), and testing procedures. Practical experience
includes work in data modeling, systems analysis, process design, data
storage systems, and software development life cycle.
In addition, SAS Certified Warehouse Development Specialists must have a
detailed working knowledge of SAS data warehousing technologies and their
practical application in data warehousing projects, including the specific
body of knowledge and understanding of the SAS Rapid Warehousing
Methodology, practice and techniques.
Test Content
Design
- Design the details of the physical warehouse environment and its standards
(e.g. directory structures, development/testing/production environments and
deployment, security components, naming conventions) in order to support
the data warehouse development and deployment by interpreting the system
specifications and using design skills.
- Design metadata processes in order to facilitate the capture and use of
technical and business metadata by interpreting the system specifications
and using design skills.
- Design data acquisition processes, including job dependencies, error
recovery and scheduling, in order to facilitate the construction and
testing of extraction, transformation, and enrichment processes by
interpreting the system specifications and using design skills.
- Design load processes, including job dependencies, error recovery and
scheduling, in order to facilitate the population (initial and update) of
the warehouse data stores and exploitation data interfaces by interpreting
the system specifications and using design skills.
- Design warehouse maintenance and management processes (aging, versioning,
archiving, backup and restore, and scheduling) in order to ensure the
sustainability of the warehouse by interpreting the system specifications
and using design skills.
Construction
- Prepare the development, testing, and production environment in order to
support the construction of the warehouse by configuring and preparing the
infrastructure.
- Execute the design for the metadata processes in order to allow the
capturing of technical and business rules and descriptions by constructing
and populating the metadata repository.
- Construct and validate data acquisition processes according to the design
in order to acquire and prepare the data for the population of the
warehouse.
- Construct and validate load processes according to the design in order to
physically populate the warehouse data stores.
- Construct and validate warehouse maintenance and management processes
(aging, versioning, archiving, backup and restore, and scheduling)
according to the design in order to ensure the sustainability and usability
of the warehouse.
Testing and Deployment
- Design the testing processes (unit, integration, system) for the defined
environment in order to ensure that all components meet the detailed design
specifications by using the appropriate testing methodology and considering
the resource constraints.
- Execute the test processes (unit, integration, system) for the defined
environment in order to ensure that all components meet the detailed design
specifications by using the appropriate testing resources and methodology.
- Execute the deployment plan in order to transfer the warehouse into the
production environment, complete the development cycle, and obtain customer
signoff.
